To tumultuous applause and by acclamation, Dr. Kathleen Cullion and Dr. Brian McAlvin were made Co-Directors of In Vivo Affairs for the LBDD. May their reign be long and prosperous. May they use their new power wisely and for the common good.
On April 3rd, Chao and his wife celebrated the birth of their baby boy, Liam! Weighing in at 7 pounds, 11 ounces. Congrats Chao!
The Kohane Lab celebrated the year of the dog with a lab lunch at Q restaurant in Chinatown!
Another end-of-year, another Escalade party. The Escalade is a celebration of Dan’s hometown’s (Geneva, Switzerland) resistance to invasion in 1602. Featured is a large cauldron made of Swiss chocolate (pictured) and filled with goodies including marzipan shaped like veggies.
On Wednesday, 9/20 the Kohane group gathered at Bertucci’s to have a goodbye lunch for Julia. Following lunch, a delicious cake from H Market in Cambridge was enjoyed by all! Julia will be leaving the lab to pursue a new career opportunity, but will miss the Kohane lab very much.
Dan traveled to Haifa (via Cesarea, Acre, and other sights) to visit ex-lab member Dr. Boaz Mizrahi in his lab at the Technion in Haifa

On April 27th, Dr. Yang was promoted to Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Harvard Medical School. Congratulations!
On Monday, April 10th Alina successfully defended her thesis titled “Repeatable and adjustable on-demand local anesthesia using externally triggered liposomes” at MIT! The work was co-advised by Dan and Professor Bob Langer at MIT. Amazing work. Congrats, Alina!
